Myriam Belasse

Myriam Belasse is no stranger to the fashion sector. For more than three decades, Belasse has added various projects and work experience to her portfolio. From fashion designer to serial entrepreneur, and brand builder – this fashion experts work focuses on connecting the dots between women's empowerment and sustainable fashion, as well as promoting diversity & inclusion in the fashion industry.

A Bit About Me

Myriam Belasse was born in St. Lucia and raised in Barbados, Belasse grew up surrounded by beauty—in culture, landscape, and art, all which greatly influenced her design aesthetic. As a child, Belasse’s mother, a professional seamstress, taught her how to sew and make clothes. Today, Belasse continues to draw inspiration from her mother and her Caribbean roots.

Belasse moved to United States in the early 80’s to pursue a career in the fashion sector. She attended New York's Fashion Institute of Technology for Design. To gain hands on experience to become a seasoned fashion designer in the future, Belasse has worked with high end private label companies, developing brands like Donna Karen, Bebe, Saks Fifth Avenue and Calvin Klein among others where she held the post of technical designer, production coordinator and quality assurance manager.

Life Experience

She has been a Founder, CEO, Creative Director, Fashion Designer, Educator, and Consultant. Throughout her entrepreneurial, creative, and corporate experiences, Belasse has been lucky enough to work on every aspect of a fashion brands life cycle, from identifying a need in the market to the legacy imprint a brand can leave on the world, personally touching every step along the way. Belasse Menswear received raved reviews when it was launched in 2001 and sent a message to the fashion world that Belasse was here to stay. A classic example of a woman following her dreams, Belasse’s Menswear designs had a hyper masculine look and feel which gave her polished pieces a distinctive look in the renowned International Male Order Catalog which helped launch her menswear line.

In 2005 Belasse relocated to Atlanta Ga and launched another product category, Atlanta Sewing and Patternmaking Services LLC.  Belasse combines her design background, technical expertise and all-around business and management experience to analyze and identify client’s needs and determine the best strategies to accomplish their creative and business goals. Belasse had the opportunity to work with the Jet Blue new uniforms launched in 2014, developing patterns, Samples and assisting in the fabric sourcing, this was indeed a successful product collaboration.

The Belasse Collection Womenswear Line came out in 2011 which was the designer’s second label, along with the e-commerce site www.belassecollection.com. The Belasse Collection is all about celebrating one-of-a-kind color palettes, fresh prints, and details. Belasse’s commitment is to make a strong and modern collection without compromising her ethics and key values, taking into consideration where materials come from and who is making them: luxury with a conscience or in other words, “honest luxury.”

In 2020, Belasse introduced her Eco-Friendly loungewear line, KeenaBela which fills a space for stylish, and chic loungewear that optimizes comfort and durability using Modal for its naturally sensual and comfortable feel. Her designs allow easy transition from sleepwear to loungewear or quick errand runs. Just over a year old, www.KeenaBela.com is available on its e-commerce website and has officially debuted at Walmart.com.

As a speaker, Belasse has spoken and led workshops throughout the US, Caribbean, and Europe.
